I Write Sometimes

February 5, 2009

Tadakatsu Hatagami looks out the window from the house that belonged to the Takiguchi’s, it was a place that was all too familiar for him. Kaneshiro and Reika Takiguchi were in a way, a second pair of parents for Tadakatsu, their son Yuichiro being a brother to him. Tadakatsu had met Yuichiro all the way back in Primary school, right on a baseball field, a place that felt like Heaven for Tadakatsu. Closing his eyes, Tadakatsu recalls the memory.

Back then, the two often played together on the same team, however, on that day when they met a good decade ago or so, they played against each other. Tadakatsu’s team, which he, assuming the lead role of the team for being the best batter, named the team the Tigers. The opposing team with Yuichiro was called the Dragons, little Yuichiro having no say in naming the team at all, but rather tagging along and just trying to fit in. Tadakatsu had played a good game like he always, all but one of the hits going way back in the outfield and he scoring each time, the other hit being a grounder that launched with enough speed for the second basemen to miss.

While Tadakatsu shined and awed the rest of the playground baseball watchers with his batting ability, he amused them with his fielding skills, for back then, he struggled immensely in even watching a fly ball. The Dragons offense was often playing offense longer due to the mishaps and costly mistakes when he was on defense. Combining his two abilities, the score remained close, 5 to 4 Dragons by the last inning, two outs and the bases loaded. It was the perfect opportunity for Tadakatsu to win the game. Nothing felt better to him than making a powerful game-winning swing to conclude a close game for a glorious victory in the sport Tadakatsu loved with such devoted passion. He had never struck out, not one single time. He was flawless and was extremely proud of his reputation for never striking out, it had made Tadakatsu the cool kid and leader of the pact throughout the diamond shaped field and beyond the bleachers surrounding it. It made him popular, that felt so cool to him. With a confident, excited, and brash grin, he laughs at the shortest boy on the Dragons team, who had only been on the mound for a few minutes, his bad pitching being the reason for all three bases being loaded.

“Pitch the ball, pip-squeak! It’s time for me to win this game! Come on, throw it already!” Tadakatsu couldn’t have been anymore confident, after all, the kid against him couldn’t even pitch well! Plus, the guy was so puny! There was no way in hell he would lose the game against him. He knew the drill and had been in the situation more than once, swing the bat, run the bases, take in the “Wow Katsu! That was a great hit! You’re so good!” like comments and go home to tell his parents about it all at the dinner table. Tadakatsu licked his lips, smirking. This was going to be a piece of cake!

Tadakatsu carefully watches as the ball is released from the little guy’s hands, he motions his bat towards the ball and shouts, “Home run!” Tadakatsu’s eyes close as he hears a loud POW from the impact of the ball ricocheting off of the bat. “Home R-uhh…drats!” The ball went wide left, a foul ball.

Tadakatsu relaxes his grip on the bat and stares right into the small pitcher’s gentle eyes. “Lucky! You don’t know how lucky you got there, shorty! NO idea! Come on, pitch it, pitch it!” Laughter comes from the Tiger dugout bench, they all knew Tadakatsu would make the game-winning hit, he was Tadakatsu Hatagami after all! He never struck out!

The ball comes towards him once more, again he swings, this time keeping his eyes open. POW! Tadakatsu’s eyes watch the ball in excitement and he even jumps in the air! He tosses the bat to the side of the mound and begins to run towards first base, arms raised, fists clenched in victory. At least, that was before he heard with a loud shout, “Foul ball!” Tadakatsu hears a few people laugh and he angrily grabs his bat, marching once more the home plate, ready for his game-winning swing. Okay, enough fooling around, this game is mine, Tadakatsu thinks to himself. Chewing a pair of Motoboshi’s Extra Flavored bubble gum, he pops it into a quick bubble and grins once more.

Tadakatsu swung, eyes closed. Tadakatsu hears a loud WOOOSH but no POW! His heart sinks and he opens his eyes, to see the pitcher’s face expand in shock. He struck out…Tadakatsu Hatagami really struck out! Tadakatsu’s shoulders immediately slump down and he drops the bat, an overwhelming feeling of unbelievability going through him. How could he, Tadakatsu Hatagami, strike out?! Against such a puny wimp none of the less! Tadakatsu notices his teammates staring at him, they seemed as shocked as he felt, although that look was temporary, as it turned to a angry and disappointed glare that basically told him, “Nice, Tadakatsu. Way to go…loser.” Tadakatsu turns away from them and spits on the ground, unable to say a thing. He really struck out.

After that game, when everyone separated, Tadakatsu found the small boy who had struck him out, the only boy to have struck him out since the first year Tadakatsu played.
“Hey, hey!”
The short boy looks at him, shyly. “Huh?”
“You’re the first person to strike me out since I started playing my first year and I’m like in my third year now…what’s your name?”
The boy seems to calm down. “I’m Yuichiro. Yuichiro Takiguchi. I really just got lucky I think, I’m no good at sports, especially baseball.”
Tadakatsu shakes his head. “No, no way, man. Don’t say that, man…you struck me out, you’ve woken me up, I’m not a perfect batter and I really felt like I was. You’ve opened my eyes, Yuichiro. I’ve never seen you around before, are you new?”
Yuichiro nods. “Yeah, mom told me to get some exercise and make some friends so I tried coming out here. It was my first time really playing against anyone but my dad. Daddy played baseball when he was younger so he was also telling me to play baseball, he usually pitches with me but I’ve never pitched to him though.”
Tadakatsu’s jaw drops. “So, basically…that was your first time pitching?”
Yuichiro nods. “Other than the few other batters before you, yeah. I was pretty scared but nobody else wanted to pitch and Hanbei was tired of pitching, so they made me pitch.”
Tadakatsu nods. “Th-that’s awesome…hahaha…really, that is, man.”
Yuichiro laughs. “I don’t know, haha.”
Tadakatsu pats Yuichiro’s shoulder. “Hey, you need friends? Tadakatsu here has you covered, how about you come over to my place for dinner? I’ll tell my parents all about the game and what you did!”

Yuichiro responds with excitement; “Okay! I’ll have to ask mom though!”

Luckily for the two, Mrs. Reika Takiguchi had said yes. It started from that day and to the very moment Tadakatsu recalled it right at the Takiguchi residence. They had been friends ever since, the sport Tadakatsu loved so much contributing to how he met his best friend, just one more reason he obsessively loved the game of baseball. It brought an eternal bond of brotherhood both on and off the field.

Merry Christmas, My Friends!

December 25, 2008

Aki Maeda says Merry Christmas! ;P (yeah, I HAD to post that, hur hur hurrrr. :3)

Hey guys! Huxley, Justin, Zhao Ran, whatever you’d rather call me is actually making a blog post! (Yeah, I’ve been lazy updating this thing lately, sorry. :P) I just wanna say some stuff. ^_^

Despite being ill for the majority of this entire month and dealing with lots of school work early on, December’s been good overall. As I type this, I still feel pretty congested but I’m in good spirts, I’m very happy it’s Christmas Eve and I actually kinda prefer that to Christmas day itself, I’m not even sure why, it’s just usually more fun. I guess maybe the childhood thought of Santa making his epic trip across the world delivering presents is a reason why? Haha, and plus I spent plenty of X-mas eves at Syracuse, New York throughout most of my years. I do wish I could go down there for Christmas again and especially meet my newest cousin, who was born shortly after dad and I visited in November, her name’s Brooklyn.

If you wanna see a video of me as Santa. It’s pretty odd. :P

Christmas is such a happy time for me really, it also reminds me of how lucky and blessed I am. I get nice gifts and have a lot of fun. At school, I participated at the Toy Drive for my school, one of the activites I did was being filmed in a “Christmas Rap” video to advertise for the school, haha. It was actually quite fun, it was me, two black kids, a redneck, and a Irish guy so it was obviously a heck of a group for a rap. One of the black dudes did the main part of the rap while the rest of us were on chorus shouting, “Toys, toys, everybody make some noise!” a couple of times. There was like 20 entries but ours ended up the top favorite of the entire school, haha….I guess I might have a career in rapping? The entire day that day I heard comments about being in that rap, lmfao.

So who received nice gifts? Hehe, I sure did! :)

I Need To Do This, Please Excuse

November 28, 2008

For the past month, I have found an inspiration. This inspiration is a man who was known as Frank Zappa. He was born in 1940 and died in 1993, of prostate cancer. This inspiration of mine created music for most of his life, music that could go around on any subject, dissing politicians and the government, lusting over Jewish princesses, not being able to dance well, muffins, ripping people that don’t act the way they really are, and flat out making music on whatever was in his brilliant mind. This was a man who did what he thought was right and flat out had fun with it! For expressing himself through such great and creative music, I admire this man and have the upmost respect for him and his art.

One thing I absolutely adore, love, respect, and just flat out, please let me say it again, LOVE in a person is a great sense of humor, hinted with a mix of sarcasm, and the mindset of “Hey, I’m gonna tell you what’s on my mind. Don’t like it? Tough shit, buddy.” type of attitude. I’ve known very few people who are really like that, or at least to the extent to satisfy my needs (o wat an analogy~) in that way. Those people are dear to my heart to say the least. Well, Frank Zappa is just like that, so I’ve got the upmost respect and love for the guy.

He stands up for himself in what he believes in. He was very opinionated and stood up for his thoughts and backed it up in the way he acted and responded to anyone who disagreed. Yet, he seemed like quite the gentlemen despite all the wackiness and rebellious attitude to him, again, a few more things I really respect. He stands up for what he believes in and doesn’t let up in his ways of expressing himself like that, but he’s not a complete asshole about it either. That’s awesome.

His lyrics are pretty fucking great too. Frank was a man who was extremely devoted to his music, and for a long very time, all the way until he just couldn’t be due to his cancer. He was known for being a workaholic with his music and it reflects with his music in the end, he brought together multiple musicians in his musical acts, the basic rock instruments and some more, and he mixed it all into his own style. It’s his style. It’s like Rock, Blues, mixed in with so much more, just something that you can’t describe in words. It’s Frank Zappa’s style, whatever you want to call it. It’s something truly amazing to me.

Obviously, as you can tell that I’ve repeated a couple times, I’m inspired by the guy. So, naturally, I’ve studied about him, have tried to listen to as many songs from him as possible, have read his autobiography (Thank God he did one! So many others never did…), have done covers of his songs for the laughs and fun of it, have watched his interviews and movies, studied about his bands, kids, family, etc etc. I must sound like a fucking stalker or something but it’s true. I’ve been deeply fascinated by this musical genius.

I’m really at the point to where he’s about the only thing I listen to. Not long ago, before I started listening to Zappa, you could ask me, “Hey Hux, who’s your favorite musician/band?” I would have probably answered The Doors for band but you would see me pondering over the favorite musician part. There were musicians that wrote great music (Bob Dylan), ones that could play the guitar outstandingly (Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Steve Lukather, others), but there wasn’t really anybody who could play a guitar really well, write songs that are both great and funny, and have the ability to just be completely awesome and make others laugh. Now, Frank Zappa has appeared and folks, I say proudly that Frank Zappa is my favorite musician. No fucking doubt. Nobody comes close. It took me a long time to find a favorite musician and be completely sure that he or she was the one, but Zappa definitely is the one.

He has songs where he’ll do guitar solos that leave me in awe, he’ll have songs with his bands that are so fucking hysterical and catchy, and he’ll have his songs that are just so what the fuckish, that it just blows my mind. The moment I listened to the song He’s Soooooo Gaaaaayyyyy, I was absoulutely fucking hooked. It had me laughing like hell and I must have listened to it 20 something, 30 something, shit, I wouldn’t doubt if it was 50 something fucking times! From then on, I find a few more songs of his, some more of the silly funniness, then some of the really serious music, and boom! I am listening to Frank Zappa and absolutely loving it.

Luckily, he lived longer than a lot of musicians did and was an extreme workaholic. He made many, many, many albums (I’m not even sure how many, 60 at least though), he wrote an autobiography (in a style that I really enjoyed, multiple funny pictures, cool fonts, the works!), and was able to record a ton of music. That’s something I’m really grateful for because so many musicians I liked had so few songs and such out because they died so young. He was a true composer and considered himself one first and foremost when asked about his music and he definitely was one! Mixing up so much with that Zappa style, many great songs and albums were made and Thank God they were! I can listen to his stuff in any mood I’m in because their is so much different stuff that is just timeless. I consider myself lucky that someone like Zappa existed and made so much amazing music.

Did he do drugs? Nope, believe it or not, he wasn’t into drugs or alcohol. He was a clean thinker for his songs and didn’t experiment with anything to help him write songs. He didn’t need it. He was definitely into his cigarettes though, “Tobacco is my favorite vegetable” is a quote he told an interviewer during his dying days.

He’s all over my YouTube as well. I’ve got a playlist of all Zappa related videos that’s closing in on 100 videos. I listen to it pretty often, it’s my background music you could say.

I like his kids too. One more thing I like about Frank is that he gave his kids very unique names, even prior to listening to Frank, I’ve always thought giving offspring crazy, unique, rare names was a great thing to do. Maybe it’s because Justin is soooo damn common? At least, around here it definitely is. Blacks, whites, even Hispanics, I know many Justin’s. Don’t get me wrong, I do like my name but it’s just too common. Anyways, he names his first daughter Moon Unit, I love that name, she actually had a quite successful hit working with her father in a comedy song called Valley Girl, when she was 14 years old. Insane. Definitely a Zappa. His second child and first son is named Dweezil, after his mother’s stubby oddly shaped toe of all things, lmfao, and he’s a very good guitarist himself. He actually does tours called Zappa plays Zappa and he plays great covers of his fathers songs. He actually performed with Frank a few times at a young age and was quite damn good at that too. I hope one day I can see Dweezil perform. Then, there’s his third child and second son, Ahmet Zappa. Ahmet is also a musician and is popular for noting to people that his name rhymes with vomit. He and Dweezil did some performances together that were pretty good and funny, not quite to the extend of what their father did but still good nonetheless. Then, there’s his last child and second daughter, Diva Zappa. He named her that because she was the loudest baby in the hospital. Works. :P

Since I like Zappa for pretty much everything about him, I am trying my best to get anyone I care about to listen to Zappa, hoping they’ll enjoy his stuff. Hell, writing this, I’m hoping to get some people to check out Zappa but I’m sure by now, you’ve probably stopped reading or have skimmed by simply because this post is so long and says things that are way too similar or nearly the same. Well, hey, at least I’m nice enough to paragraph and use somewhat okay grammar. :)

Perhaps the thing I admire most about Frank was simply this; He lived his life the way he wanted to. Or at least, it really seemed that way to me. It seemed like he did what was on his mind, no matter how much heat he took for it, and he just had that beautiful mentality of, “Hey, I’m gonna tell you what’s on my mind. Don’t like it? Tough shit, buddy.” that I love so much. He went out, made extremely unique music that was catchy, funny, innovative, and flat out amazing to me. He acted the way he always did to the very end too, when he knew his life was coming to an end, sarcastic, witty, hilarious, definitely not afraid to express what was on his mind, just look up at what I’ve previously written above, he continued to act that way to the very end. I’ve got nothing but respect, admiration, and love for Zappa. Thanks for all you did, Frank. I’ll see you someday, bro.

How can I put it? I like the guy. Frank Zappa fucking rocks.

What sick and twisted people would allow this to be viewed? There are alot of bad things in this world, but this video is beyond comprehension. This site should be banned for allowing this video. There are young children that gain access to this site. This video is more sickening than anything that I have ever seen in my life.
